} The second question is: should I consider changing my own oil?



Hmm -- oil change at local service place (not Jiffy Lube): $16.95 +

tax, for 10W-30 dead dinosaurs, plus some wait time.  Plus cost of

filter if you don't want to use whatever brand they stock.



Oil change at Jiffy Lube: Forget it, cost of repairing whatever they

break will dwarf actual oil change costs.  When I was at the local

service place a few of us waiting were swapping horror stories about

it. 



Oil change myself:  Cost of oil + cost of filter + cost of knuckles

and other scraped and burned bits + trouble to dispose of oil (gotta

wait 'till dark to hit the storm drain) +  cost of drain washer + cost

of cleaning clothing and drip pan..... well, you get the point.
