Cat,
They are correct about not being able to replace the mirror glass on the M1
power mirror. I seriously doubt that they can repolish the scratches out of
the glass knowing their skill level. If they can polish them out this will
likely result in optical distortion which may be more annoying than the
scratches themselves and may even be dangerous. It is my feeling that they
are bluffing you and are perhaps hoping to be able to remove the scratches.
I think that when they fail at removing the scratches which is inevitable
you should insist on having a new one or another at least as good as the old
one. Watch out that they don't try to glue a new piece of mirror over the
old one as this may eventually fall off. The glass should have the little
black plastic ring around the outside if it's original.

Subject: help - removing scratches in glass
> Question for the collective...can one remove scratches from the glass on a
mirror? Seems the body shop replaced my mirror they dropped with a salvage
part (been confirmed by the shop) and there are scratches in the glass I
could not get out. My original mirror had one scratch in the paint, which
is why I had it painted when the rest of the car was painted....no scratches
in glass. They assure me they can get the scratches out of the glass. Is
this possible? I think I should insist on a new mirror in the same
condition as the one they dropped...but want to be done with this....and
yes, there's more. There have been A LOT of BLUNDERS y'all have not been
let in on. I just want to be done with this as my rental coverage has
already run out and my patience and tolerance are growing thin!

> So can they fix the glass part of the mirror? They said they cannot
replace just the glass piece which is why they replaced the whole mirror
assembly when they dropped the original. Can the scratches (about 6 - 8)
and chips be buffed out somehow? Or just the glass replaced (power M1
mirror)? I called and know they are still available new...just in case.
