Yes this is possible.  I had my trunk release disconnected when I locked my
keys in the trunk.  I tried getting in the truck from inside the car, no
luck.  With only some basic tools, and no other way of getting home, that
lock was history.  It took about 15 minutes.  It wasn't that easy, but it's
possible.
