Thanks Todd, you're correct, I was away playing with some of my piston and non-piston powered toys. I have only anecdotal evidence, BUT...... My friend and I both had 1972 Ralleye dodge challengers, identically equipped, right down to the color (not gawd's color). Mine was broken in 'by the book'. No WOT, nice easy break in. My friends was broken in as per the Mopar 'bible' racing manual (which is pretty much what i've recommended to the list). His car revved much freer and consistantly ran .25/second faster in the quarter mile about 25 horsepower (didn't matter who drove which car). This 'character' persisted until he totaled his car and I sold mine (with high miles on it). Since Then I have ALWAYS broken in my new vehicles with plenty of WOT and plenty of runs to redline, never lugging and never abusing them (and with fresh oil, especially if the car was sitting on the lot for more than 90 days). All of these vehicles have run like bats out of hell, been very reliable (like my 1981 volvo which was broken in flat out and driven for 347,000 miles pretty much flat out, original transmission and engine and is still running today). Both of my miata's were broken in at wot with no ill effects. Not only would I highly recommend it, but it's fun!
