I recently noticed some chaffing on the inside of the top of my
94 Miata.  It's occurrs directly behind he driver as they look
over their left shoulder.  The size is about 2x2 inches.  If the 
window is zipped up, it's not visible because of the extra layer.

I'm concerned it could eventually wear through.  Also, when the top is
down, the wear is at a point where the top creases.  I can't see
where the wear could be coming from.  It could potentially be rubbing
against the outside of the top (when folded down) but I don't see 
any wear there.  However, the outside is tougher than the inside.
I am the original owner but I suppose I could have missed this at 
delivery time. I don't now.

The passenger side shows minimal chaffing but not nearly as bad as 
the driver side and not in the same location. Expert opinion has 
proven inconclusive.  I finally took it to the dealer for evaluation.
The service manager as to fit it into his/her schedule.  Perhaps the
district manager who only shows up once a month. (sigh)  As to wether 
it's a common problem, two dealer service folks have said it's not 
common but they have seen it.  However, I don't think they really know.  
If you've had a similar problem, I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know 
the circumstances.
