For those that might be interested, below are the details of SOCALM's San
Diego Christmas Light Tour:

San Diego Christmas Light Tour

Date: Saturday, December 16th
Time: Promptly at 5:30 p.m.
Where:  Parking lot of Thrifty Drug store, 2774 Sweetwater Springs Blvd.,
           Spring Valley
Cost:  $8 per car for Del Mar Racetrack "Holiday of Lights" (see below)
Run Leaders:  Mark and Cathy Booth

Many say that Christmas isn't Christmas without a little snow.  Well, how
about touring two of San Diego's best decorated neighborhoods and the Del
Mar Racetrack's "Holiday of Lights", at night, in mid-December, with the
top DOWN?  That will surely put some icicles on your nose!

This one will be a little different.   It would be virtually impossible to
keep all the Miatas together while we traveled from site to site.  So,
instead, we will meet at a shopping center near each site, tour the site
--each car at their own pace-- and then return to the shopping center to
regroup before going on to the next site.  Restrooms will be available at
each shopping center.

Our tour will take us through 2 neighborhoods and then finish with the
grand finale at Del Mar Racetrack's first annual "Holiday of Lights".  The
folks at Del Mar have decorated the racetrack infield with dozens of
animated displays and thousands of lights.  This is the largest single
display of outdoor Christmas decorations in the entire state of California.
Similar displays in other states draw hundreds of thousands of visitors
each year!

It is very difficult to make an estimate (traffic, etc.) but we are
guessing that we will finish at approx. 10:00 p.m.  We are intentionally
ending the tour in the North County area (Del Mar) so that those coming
down from L.A. or Orange Counties will be that much closer to home.  No
dinner is planned during the run.

Suggestion:  How about decorating your Miata's boot cover with a short
strand of those battery-powered Christmas lights?  These are available at
places like K-Mart, Target and craft stores.

Directions:  I-805 south to Highway 94 east.  Continue on Hwy. 94 into La
Mesa.  (Watch your signs carefully, Hwy. 94 east merges off to the right
near the Spring Street exit.)  Stay on Hwy. 94 east and exit at Sweetwater
Springs Blvd.  Turn right at the stop sign.  The second traffic light you
hit will be Austin Dr.  Just past Austin, turn right into the Thrifty Drug
store parking lot.

IMPORTANT NOTES:  There is a fee of $8 per car to tour the "Holiday of
Lights" at Del Mar.  Also, the tour takes place on the track itself (dirt
road).  However, we are told that the track will be fully packed-down and
that dust should be minimal.  If you find this to be objectionable, please
join us for the two neighborhood stops at the beginning of the tour.

THE TOUR WILL BE CANCELED IF IT RAINS.  If you have any questions, please
