How do you check whether or not a voltmeter works?  
I have a Veglia (battery condition) that was in the padded console.  It was 
not wired into anything.  I tried + and - wires direct from the battery and 
didn't get any needle movement.  Could this be a dead guage?

Also while driving back from Vegas with AC on, my ampmeter was on the 
discharge side of the scale.  Standard but new 60 amp alternator.  Should 
this be upgraded to a 100 amp alt?  Any suggestions on brand and where to get 
one would be appreciated.  Summit has one listed as a race alternator (100 
amp for early Fords).
